The following are some of the wonderful organizations and individuals that I have had the honor to work with. While my engagement with them is still active, this list gives the reader just a tiny glimpse on the world of opportunities for helping available to all of us at the click of a button from the comfort of our own home.

Besides on-line donations, there is also a plethora of hands-on prospects to make the world a better, more compassionate place, especially during these much challenging times where people and animals need our help more than ever. By clicking the logos
you will be redirected to their website you can learn more about each one.

I am doing it… You CAN, too!!!

For over 80 years, Plan USA (now Plan International) has been part of a global network striving for a just world that advances children’s rights and equality for girls.
We believe that girls’ rights are human rights. Her dreams are hers to discover. Her potential is hers to uncover. Her future is hers to realize. And her life is hers to live.
But when she faces violence and oppression, her path is blocked. Together, we must tear down the barriers, both systemic and circumstantial, that are ahead of her.
Powered by our supporters, we partner with adolescent girls and children in 54,000 communities around the world to overcome oppression and gender inequality. We provide support and resources unique to their needs, ensuring they achieve their full potential with dignity, opportunity and safety.

Over the last 16 years, I have had the privilege of sponsoring more than 40 children through Plan USA and we are now in the process of discussing a book project together on the wonderful opportunities that sponsorship brings, both to the sponsor and the sponsored parties.

SCARPR
Second Chance Animal Rescue of Puerto Rico

Second Chance Animal Rescue is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in February of 2000 by our director Bonnie Lukas. We rescue, rehabilitate, and secure permanent homes for abandoned and abused dogs rescued from the streets of Puerto Rico.

The island of Puerto Rico has been plagued by a severe stray animal population for many years, however, Hurricane Maria has now exacerbated the stray dog population to epidemic proportions.

Although the island continues to battle days with no water or electricity, Second Chance never fails to provide shelter,  medical attention and hope to animals that continue to be abandoned and forced to suffer on the streets.

Small but dedicated organizations such as Second Chance Animal Rescue (SCAR) in Villalba, Puerto Rico have played a significant role in saving hundreds of forgotten animals for close to 20 years.  Our goal is to place each rescue into a loving home stateside.

I have had the wonderful opportunity to serve as SCARPR’ s nonprofit photographer and to witness the incredibly hard work that goes into running and maintaining such a costly and demanding operation.

CTA
Caribbean Thoroughbred Aftercare of Puerto Rico

For more than a decade, the CTA team has worked diligently to provide a responsible process for Thoroughbreds that have been shipped to the islands for racing to be returned off the racetracks in healthy condition and ready for new careers and happily ever afters.
As a groundbreaking strategy for horse rescue and retirement in the Caribbean, CTA takes pride in its service to the local racing communities and to the many (primarily stateside) adopters who each play a vital part in the multi-faceted life journey of this noble and distinctive breed; the American Thoroughbred.
Hundreds of Thoroughbreds arrive in Puerto Rico and surrounding islands each year. The challenges of transitioning them back to the States are many, but our commitment is strong. We believe every racehorse deserves a happy ending – particularly if that race career ends in a remote Caribbean destination.
Thoroughbreds are versatile, athletic and possess extraordinary heart – our mission is to provide a safe passage and future for these beautiful animals.

I have had the wonderful opportunity to serve as CTA’s nonprofit photographer and to witness the incredibly hard work that goes into running and maintaining such a costly and demanding operation.

Over the years, I have had the privilege of bringing in the funds necessary for the renovation of the children’ s dorms and their kitchen, as well as supporting the high-school students in their continuing education. The children at the Home are eager to continue their education and all of them are dreaming of going to college. They need your help!

Best Friends operates the nation’ s largest sanctuary for homeless animals; provides adoption, spay/neuter, and educational programs.

Their “How to start and run an animal sanctuary” workshop led me to starting my own sanctuary in Sicily, Italy. And besides, I adopted my wonderful dog Piper from Best Friends, back in 2014.

Save A Gato (SAG) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the welfare and care of the cats of Old San Juan through TNR, fostering, and adoption. Save A Gato manages the colony of cats on the Paseo del Morro and the rest of Old San Juan. SAG must stress the fact that we are not a shelter, and we cannot accept cats from outside of Old San Juan under any circumstances.

Cats are trapped, and then sterilized, and vaccinated. Since many stray cats are feral and not adoptable, they are returned to their original colonies. SAG volunteers lovingly monitor the community cats and provide fresh food and water on a daily basis.

Save a Gato also offers the option to adopt cats while they are going through the TNR process. Sometimes, the cats that are trapped in Old San Juan are pregnant, kittens, or friendly adults. These will often go into foster care until they are ready to be adopted. Most are sent to our local PetSmart and PetCo stores, while others are adopted directly through SAG (email us-saveagatopr@gmail.com) or sent to rescue partners in the United States. You can see our available kitties on our Adopt page or on social media.

I have had the wonderful opportunity to serve as Save A Gato’s nonprofit photographer and to witness the incredibly hard work that goes into running and maintaining such a costly and demanding operation.

More than 1.7 billion people around the world are unbanked and can’t access the financial services they need. Kiva is an international nonprofit, founded in 2005 in San Francisco, with a mission to expand financial access to help underserved communities thrive.
We do this by crowdfunding loans and unlocking capital for the underserved, improving the quality and cost of financial services, and addressing the underlying barriers to financial access around the world. Through Kiva’s work, students can pay for tuition, women can start businesses, farmers are able to invest in equipment and families can afford needed emergency care.
By lending as little as $25 on Kiva, you can be part of the solution and make a real difference in someone’s life. 100% of every dollar you lend on Kiva goes to funding loans.

Over the last few years, I have made more than 450 loans to more than 65 countries around the globe through Kiva including: Albania, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Cameroon, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Liberia and Malawi.
